Life tumbles onward in a hectic tempo. Since the start of the autumn semester I've had no real time to think about shaping up my home. Therefore, it's basically a status quo in its appearance, also several months after my move-in. Everytime someone asks me how my plans of remaking the kitchen are coming along, I have to confess that I've hardly had the time to MEASURE the current layout, much less think of how I would like to change it. A research colleague in Sweden comments that people like us (= in academia) probably have more need for getting work published than a new kitchen anyway. There is some truth in that, but then...one needs to eat, and it would be much more fun to cook without a tiny sink and stupidly planned working areas.
Visitors to my home are greeted by an unpainted hallway and echoing, bare walls in the living room. But who cares? There are so many more interesting things to do that beat painting and kitchen planning. Mirre comes over to share the yearly culture night with me. We manage to cram Tivoli, Glypoteket, ice sculptures, Christiansborg, the botanical gardens AND dinner into one chilly, but exciting October night. A week later Anke shows up and we also enjoy a great weekend of culture, shopping, and laughter.
"J-dag", the day Tuborg release their Christmas brew, I have a visitor from Japan. An odd sensation trying to explain why the city is packed with people, happily standing in line outside the pubs already at 9 pm, dressed in blue "father-christmas-hats" with blinking lights. I don't understand it either...
